⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book had me trying to turn the pages faster than I could read them. Guess a “horror zoo” is about as practical as Jurassic Park. All these monsters have now taken over the world and Wyatt has to again face the monsters from nightmares.

Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a very unique and interesting book. I love how everyone knows vampires, werewolves, ECT… exist in the world and one person goes “hey let’s make a zoo!” It was a tad predictable at points but it’s overall a good book.

I think this is a great book for the YA group, but adult’s could still enjoy it.

Book Details:

Book Title: Inanna Phantom, Volume III – The Cairns of Sainctuarie Science Fiction Series by Hawk MacKinney

Category: Adult Fiction (18 +), 270 pages

Genre: Science Fiction

Publisher: Sage Words Publishing

Release date: Sep 2019

Tour dates: Jan 27, 2020 to Feb 14, 2020

Content Rating: PG-13: Some of the war scenes are graphic.
Book Description:

The threat of rift invasions seem long passed. Plentiful harvests
abound. The Murian first-contact Terato Outpost has grown into the
sprawling Terato-Murian Terminus Terato with a hub of relay portals
reaching across the vast uncharted galactic expanses and connecting with
its eon-extinct Lantaraan prehistory. An exploratory Terato-Murian
Jupiterr outpost is established on the gas giant seventh planet, and its
quantum and gravitational energies are used to power outpost portals
for an archeological survey of the fourth planet, Eorthe. The Lantaraan
database aboard Terato’s ancient Downday moon shows that one or more
planets of the Solaris planets have apparently been lost. Expanded
archeological records on other Lantaraan orbital bodies in the Solaris
system show the fourth planet from the star—Eorthe—to be a sterile
wasteland. Except it is not. Eorthe’s civilization is not to the level
of the Murian Empire, but it is far advanced to those of a pastoral
Terato. Terato and Eorthe form the confederated United Terran League
under the nominal figurehead leader of League High Judikarr Eklam a’Qoc.
Jupiterr outpost expands into a major League stronghold, Jupiterr Base,
when civil unrest erupts in the League, the unexpected return of rift
intrusions threatens, and the Murian Emperor Klarvko Celo is
assassinated. As they prepare for confrontations with an unknown ancient
enemy, the internal tensions on Myr and Eorthe push Murians and
Teratoans to dangerous discords.

Release date: Oct 2012

Tour dates: Jan 27, 2020 to Feb 14, 2020

Content Rating: PG-13: Some of the war scenes are graphic.

Book Description:

From a rocky outcrop a battle-widowed Etkaa, gazed down at the death and
upheaval. Rancid green Murian blood stenched the dusklit breezes from
the haze-dimmed river marshlands. Nothing has been spared by the Green
Dragon forces of Bleikovia. In skirmishes along the Feldon River,
Etkaa’s mate is fatally wounded with deadly selvon poison. Through a
gruesome mountain trek of icy blizzards, they elude the Green Dragon.
The battered starving Feldovats reach the coast at Eedov City only to be
confronted by their implacable enemy determined to destroy the
remaining Klarvkon rabble. Taking passage on crowded Maalon freighters,
the refugees escape toward a new life among their Maalon hosts. Enraged
Bleikovats move against the Klarvkons, bringing indiscriminate
bloodshed. War once again surfaces, as it did in the muddy filth along
the Feldon River of Malfesov, and becomes a different kind of war.

Book Description:

Generations after the great Murian upheaval of the Malfesian War against
the Bleikovats, the Accords between planets Terato and Myr are signed.
Provisional Outpost Terato is under construction near a farm where
Teratoan orphan Eklam a’Qoc lives with his uncle and cousin.

Inquisitive strong-minded Eklam, Ek to everyone in the village, is
captivated by the off-worlders technology, and becomes an apprentice to
the Outpost Terato’s Murian commander, Grand Duke Korvo. Uncle a’Qoc
disapproves; wants nothing to do with these outlanders, wants their
shimmering doorway portals-of-travel banned from Terato. As Outpost
Terato becomes operational it seems to become a harbinger stirring
ageless secrets of The Old Ones and their frightful weapons, of ancient
Teratoan ruins, mysterious glowing lights, unexplained killings, a
sacred book in a language no Teratoan can read, a moon that doesn’t
behave like a moon in its wobbly orbit.

From cosmic reaches beyond space and time the ominous secrets of
Terato’s ancient ruins become more threatening. Ek and Korvo realize
both their worlds face extinction with any hope buried somewhere in
unknown galaxies far beyond a pastoral Terato or the sophisticated
star-empire of the Murians; of missing planets in a star system with its
single star in a galaxy far-removed unknown to Terato or Myr. They
travel across the universe to a place long forgotten to fight this
unknown foe with weapons only dreamed of. Together they face the beast
that wishes to consume the entire universe.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the third book in Inanna Phantom, this one like the previous two can be read as a standalone…but I really recommend reading all three books. The action ramps up in this book, I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. This is another author I’m adding to my “keep an eye on” list!

Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a very complex and well written book, I really liked how the author added maps and a glossary to help out readers, but this definitely is not a light read.

It did take me a few chapters to get into the flow of the story but it is definitely a book you should check out. I can’t wait to read the next one.

Interview with the author

Turning the Pages – Thank you for hosting the three volumes of The Cairns of Sainctuarie Sci-Fi series. We sci-fi readers/writers are a picky bunch. Some of us want action. Some of us want a heavy dose of the technical, others only a hint of it. It’s a fine balance across the genre-readers with satellite & probe research and discoveries of particle physics/theories changing faster than results can get published.

Where do you get inspiration for your stories? From the simplest of wonders all about us…along with the symmetry & beauty of our subatomic building blocks. Or as some might say, “wave field energies waiting to condense into what we are.”

Do you ever get writer’s block? No. I’ve no idea how to describe “writer’s block” much less overcome it. My outlines and notes delve into the crannies & crevices of the fantabulous and far beyond the galaxies of the Milky Way and Andromeda.

Your book is set on/in alien worlds. Have you ever been there? Yes, every day. In/on some of the most enchanting worlds that are all around us. No world is any more alien than our own ship-space home world wobbling about its rather minor star in a spiral arm of this glorious system.

What is your next project?
The next title is already in edit from my Moccasin Hollow Mystery Series. I’m in the 5th line-by-line edit with cover design on the way.

What advice would you give budding writers?
Our cultures are filled with overabundance of Don’t, no and You can’t do that. Forget the naysayers & the jealous. Keep alive the kid that fuels the juices of your fantasies. Dream big & bigger with that child AND don’t say NO to the person in the mirror.

What made you write a sci-fi series? The fantasies of the 12-year old that never quits, coupled with our family of bipeds having taken our first stumbling steps to becoming a galactic/intergalactic space species. My 12-year old has been there…waiting for everyone else to catch up.

Name a quirky thing you like to do. Riding steam engine trains…anytime, anywhere…watch the backyards and mountains of North America & the EU roll by.

Favorite travel site: A tossup between the highlands of Scotland & Israel.

Favorite dessert/snack: Crème Brûlée or a plate of fried fatback – neither any longer on the menu—at least not mine!

If there is one thing you want readers to remember about you, what would it be? Never forget where & who you came from, & the inner strengths you received from that.

Do you write every day? Absolutely! It’s a compulsive obsession…no peace of mind without feeding the demanding beast. Too many tales/secrets to tell —

Where do you write? Anywhere. Mainly in my study – no music – no phone – no internet – no social media – no distractions.

In today’s tech savvy world, most use computers…have you ever written parts of your books on paper? ALL of them – the rough drafts, settings, character & scene outlines & notes – writing in cursive or abbreviated notes IN cursive comes from parts of one’s brain that drives & makes us what we are. The hurry up creatures throw most of themselves away with rush-rush gadgets that do nothing for intellect or creativity. Show me an elegant cursive signature, I’ll show you a thinking, smart, sense-of-humor writer who respects himself.

Thanks again for inviting me to visit with you.

VOLs I-II-II Synopses:

Vol I, The Bleikovat Event opens on verge of a Bleikovat invasion of the Feldon domains. The Malfesian War ravages homes and villages, splinter families and shatter ancient customs of Myr’s Feldovat clan bloodlines, ultimately reshaping the destiny of the Murians. Generations pass. Most but not all of the grisly remembrances of the great Malfesian upheavals become tales of legendary heroes.

Vol II, The Missing Planets Myr has become an interstellar empire with a constitutional autocracy under the Clan Klarvkon Dynasty, expanding beyond the Murian home world system into unimaginable intergalactic reaches. On remote agrarian Planet Terato Murians reach a covenant with Judikarr leaders to establish a Murian relay outpost to continue archeological studies. The thought-to-be extinct Lantaraan culture of the single-star system on the far side of known Murian star maps proves to be inhabited, along with a powerful unknown adversary determined to erase all traces of Terato and Myr. Only the massive Lantaraan defenses on Jupiterr manage can oppose the onslaught – only if the Lantaraan descendants of Eorthe can unravel the secrets to using them.

Vol III, Inanna Phantom the threat returns. Urban centers devastated; populations displaced; civil disruption erupts; Eorthe government breakdowns with the ascendency of Teran League.

Genre: MG/ Middle Grade/ Mystery (Ages 9 – 12)

World-famous Egyptologist Dr. Winston Thornsley died suddenly two months ago in disgrace. His widow, Ida Thornsley, remains convinced her husband was falsely accused of stealing an ancient burial urn he discovered in Egypt last summer, but local and federal law enforcement officers are stumped.

Mrs. Thornsley, desperate for answers, calls in her thirteen-year-old neighbors, the Botanic Hill Detectives—twins Lanny and Lexi Wyatt, Moki Kalani, and Rani Kumar. Their exciting mission? To find the urn and its real thief, bring the criminal to justice, and exonerate Dr. Thornsley so his spotless reputation can be restored.

A roomful of venomous snakes, the poisoned Egyptian pond, and Dragon Pit Man are just a few of the tests awaiting the four tech-savvy teenagers. As the detectives begin to unravel the sinister plot, the mystery takes a dangerous turn. Answers are at their fingertips—if they can only convince their parents to let them solve the case.

Excerpt – Chapter 4

“Here we go again. An aftershock! I’ve been afraid this would happen,” said Dr. Kurtz. She rapidly surveyed the room full of terrariums. “And one of my assistants just called to say he’s found a somewhat hidden but large crack from this morning’s tremor on one of our venomous snake enclosure’s glass panes. It’s a major emergency. Come out with me quickly boys—now! I have to attend to this immediately,” she shouted behind her, as she grabbed her tool bag, yanked open the heavy door, and fled outside and down the breezeway to the enclosure.

Unfortunately, Moki and Lanny weren’t as fast as Dr. Kurtz. The door banged shut in their surprised faces and locked. They were trapped in a windowless room.

As if that weren’t bad enough, the power failed simultaneously, and the room went pitch black. Both boys froze, helplessly surrounded by three walls of venomous snakes they could still hear but no longer see.

This book took me a little bit to get into, but it is definitely a good read. I think middle school students would love this book, they’ll definitely learn some stuff about Egypt while reading.

About the Author

Excerpt

“Why did you bring me back?” Philip asked. “And why was it so difficult?”

Mortimer’s laughter stopped abruptly.

“Two questions with the same answer,” Death said, setting his coffee mug down. His hand shook faintly, Philip noticed. “Because the reason that you were able to stay alive as long as you did is the very reason that I’ve brought you here.” He sighed heavily and closed his eyes. Closed them for so long that Philip almost thought he’d fallen asleep. Then he opened his eyes again, slowly, and the gray eyes looked mournfully at Philip. “My die was stolen.”

“Your die?” Philip repeated, surprised, and automatically gazed at Mortimer’s chest, where the hundred-sided die should have hung from a silver necklace. One of the two great dice. Death’s die. The one that gave newborns their life-years. But there was no necklace. No die. “When?”

“About two weeks ago. At first, I thought I’d misplaced it, that I’d put it somewhere. I searched the entire house before I realized.”

“Realized what?” Satina asked.

“That the front door was ajar. Someone had been here. Someone had been here and had stolen my die while I slept.”

“Do you have any idea who it might be?”

Mortimer shook his head. “I have no clue. But it must be someone who knows me well. Knows my habits. I sleep just once a year, you see. On April thirty-first, when spring has arrived, Vita’s working overtime, and everything is in bloom. That’s when I get my deep sleep. You remember Vita, right Philip?”

Philip nodded. He remembered Vita very well. She was Mortimer’s sister. Philip had met her the last time he was in Hell. She was the one who brought him back to life. She was life.

Then it hit him, exactly what Mortimer had said, and he counted the months on his knuckles. January, February, March, April. No, there weren’t 31 days in April. And another thing…

“You said the die was stolen two weeks ago,” he said. “But half a year has passed since April?”

“For you, yes,” Death replied. “But time is different down here, remember.”

“Oh yeah,” Philip said, a little irritated for not figuring that out himself. Hadn’t he just determined there was no such thing as April 31st? Of course, time was different down here. Everything was different down here.

“This is a calamity!” The old man stood and began to pace the floor, shaking his head in despair. “Without my die, every child born in the world will be immortal. The consequences will be horrific for those poor people, who won’t have death to look forward to.”

“Death isn’t exactly something people look forward to, is it?” objected Philip cautiously.

Mortimer paused, staring at him. “Yes, it is,” he said in a voice verging on a snarl. “They just don’t know it.”

“I don’t understand.”

“And Lucifer said you were such a bright boy. But then again, he is the Father of Lies,” Death muttered. He moved to the window and looked out at the evening darkness as it sank swiftly across the bleak countryside. “Many people would say the same thing, Philip. That death is something terrible, a necessary evil best avoided.”

“Well… isn’t it?”

“No!” shouted Mortimer, startling both Philip and Satina. His old eyes sparkled. “I’m humanity’s greatest fear because there’s no greater fear than that of death. But that’s not the way it should be! The truth is, people don’t realize just how much they should appreciate me. Death isn’t an unfortunate consequence of life; on the contrary, Death is what makes life worth living. Men and women value only that which they might lose. Don’t you see? Without death, life is uninteresting and utterly meaningless.”

Philip didn’t entirely understand what Mortimer was saying. And yet… maybe he did. “It’s like what Lucifer said. Without evil there is no good. You can’t have one without the other. And the same goes for life and death?”

“Exactly!” Mortimer thrust out his arms. “Without death, the joy of life is killed by life itself! And that’s not even the worst of it. How would the world look in just fifty years? Think about all those poor wretches who’ve been seriously injured, but whose heart continues to beat. Victims of traffic accidents, of earthquakes, fires, floods. Terrible, terrible! The world would be populated by living corpses who wish for nothing more than the peace that comes with death, but their wishes would never be fulfilled. Can you imagine that?”

Satina said nothing, but Philip had to swallow twice. Yes, he could imagine it. He could see it all too clearly, and he could feel the nausea burbling in his gut at the frightening scenario Death described.

“When you roll your die,” Philip said, “what happens exactly?”

“That’s a huge question,” Death said, gazing deeply into his eyes. “Can your mind handle the answer?”

“Try me.”

“When the die is cast, the sand begins to run.”

Philip glanced at Satina, who shook her head to show she didn’t understand either. “What do you mean?”

Mortimer stepped slowly toward him. Shadows covered his face like a black spiderweb. His eyes were concealed in darkness.

“Are you afraid, Philip?” he asked. His voice was dry as the fire crackling in the woodstove. “Are you afraid of death?”

Philip’s first impulse was to nod. Because he was afraid of Death, afraid of this odd, ancient man who’d been around since the origins of life, who had seen civilizations rise and fall, who had seen so many ghastly things that it had snuffed out the light in his eyes. But he surprised himself by shaking his head. “No. I’m not afraid. I’m already dead.”

Mortimer seemed to consider this response carefully. Then his mouth twisted into a wry smile.

“Come along,” he said. “I will show you something no human being has ever seen.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am totally loving this series so far, it’s definitely a must read.

I find with most series the second book falls a little short compaired to the first book, but this is not the case with this series. I found this book better than the first, and the first one is five stars for me.

This book has such vivid descriptions and real life characters that it makes you forget you’re reading a book, which is funny since it’s set in hell. I can’t wait to dig into the rest of the series, definitely keeping an eye on this author.

About the Author

kba_5_thumb

I WAS BORN IN DENMARK ON A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT IN NOVEMBER 1976 …

… and I began writing when I was a teenager. My first book was a really awful horror novel titled Nidhug’s Slaves. It didn’t get published. Luckily.

During the next 7 years, I wrote nearly 20 novels–all of which were rejected–while working as a school teacher. The rest of the time I spent writing.

In 2000 I published my debut fantasy book, The Battle of Caïssa, and that’s when things really took off. Since then I’ve published more than thirty-five books for children and young adults in genres ranging from fantasy to horror and science fiction.

My books have been translated into more than 15 languages and my series about the superhero Antboy has been adapted for film, which is available on Netflix. An animated tv series is currently in development.

A musical of The Devil’s Apprentice opened in the fall 2018 and the movie rights for the series have also been optioned.

I live in Copenhagen with my wife, two boys, a dog named Milo and spiders in the basement.

About THE GREAT DEVIL WAR: The Great Devil War was published in Denmark from 2005-2016, beginning with The Devil’s Apprentice.

Even though the story (mostly) takes place in Hell and deals with themes like evil, death and free will, it is also a humoristic tale about good and evil seen from a different perspective. A tale that hopefully will make the reader – young or old, boy or girl – laugh and think.

Welcome to the other side!

Normally I’m not into military type books but the description of this book had me really wanting to read this book. It started out a little slow but quickly picks up the pace, and hooks you. Once I got into the story I couldn’t put the book down. Looking forward to checking out more from this author.

a boon to the medical world. The fourth exposes the world of computer
